We use a number system when determining advancement. Films can advance to as many as
three rounds, are judged on their own merits, and do not compete directly with one another. In
the rare event of a tie, films are sent to new judges, are scored independently, and the process
is repeated until advancement is determined. Judges consider a variety of factors when
determining advancement, such as: direction, performances, overall production quality, and
above all originality.
